Judge Knot Politics and Development in International Investment Law
Judge Knot: Politics and Development in International Investment Law By Todd N. Tucker
2018 | 226 Pages | ISBN: 1783087900 | PDF | 13 MB
'Judge Knot' explores the biggest and the most controversial success story in international law: investor-state dispute settlement, or ISDS. Since 1990, investors have launched hundreds of claims against government regulation. This exclusive inside look explains what makes the system tick: its poorly understood centuries-old origins, why corporations demand investment law solutions to political problems, how arbitrators supply these solutions, and why the system lasts despite the many politicians and citizens unhappy with it. Building off of an unprecedented set of interviews with the arbitrators who actually decide the cases, 'Judge Knot' brings together the best of political science, law and development economics scholarship and offers a concrete alternative to ISDS that leverages what works about the system and discards what does not, so that international law can be more supportive of democracy and development goals.

John Brown Still Lives! America's Long Reckoning with Violence, Equality, and Change
R. Blakeslee Gilpin, "John Brown Still Lives!: America's Long Reckoning with Violence, Equality, and Change"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 1469613956 | PDF | pages: 308 | 3.2 mb
From his obsession with the founding principles of the United States to his cold-blooded killings in the battle over slavery's expansion, John Brown forced his countrymen to reckon with America's violent history, its checkered progress toward racial equality, and its resistance to substantive change. Tracing Brown's legacy through writers and artists like Thomas Hovenden, W. E. B. Du Bois, Robert Penn Warren, Jacob Lawrence, Kara Walker, and others, Blake Gilpin transforms Brown from an object of endless manipulation into a dynamic medium for contemporary beliefs about the process and purpose of the American republic.

Investigating Couples A Critical Analysis of The Thin Man The Avengers and The X Files
Investigating Couples: A Critical Analysis of "The Thin Man" "The Avengers" and "The X Files" By Tom Soter
2002 | 247 Pages | ISBN: 0786411236 | PDF | 39 MB
Male-female detective pairings often exhibit offbeat, dark humor and considerable chemistry as they investigate crimes. They have proven to be both entertaining and alluring on screen and television. This work reveals an evolutionary progression in the depictions of three such detective duos: the married pair Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man, blackhumored special agents John Steed and Emma Peel of The Avengers, and finally the smoldering Mulder and Scully in The X-Files. Ten chapters offer critical analysis, rich with background information and insider observations. Production comments are given throughout. Three appendices (one for each show) offer episode guides with original broadcast dates, credits and brief synopses.

Intersectionality and Relational Psychoanalysis New Perspectives on Race, Gender, and Sexuality
Intersectionality and Relational Psychoanalysis: New Perspectives on Race, Gender, and Sexuality By Max Belkin (editor), Cleonie White (editor)
2020 | 246 Pages | ISBN: 0367361744 | PDF | 3 MB
Intersectionality and Relational Psychoanalysis: New Perspectives on Race, Gender, and Sexuality examines the links between race, gender, and sexuality through the dual perspectives of relational psychoanalysis and the theory of intersectionality. This anthology discusses the ways in which clinicians and patients inadvertently reproduce experiences of privilege and marginalization in the consulting room. Focusing particularly on the experiences of immigrants, women of color, sex workers, and LGBTQ individuals, the contributing authors explore how similarities and differences between the patient's and analyst's gender, race, and sexual orientation can be acknowledged, challenged, and negotiated. Combining intersectional theory with relational psychoanalytic thought, the authors introduce a number of thought-provoking clinical vignettes to suggest how adopting an intersectional approach can help us navigate the space between pathology and difference in psychotherapy. By bringing together these new psychoanalytically-informed perspectives on clinical work with minority and marginalized individuals, Intersectionality and Relational Psychoanalysis makes an important contribution to psychoanalysis, psychology, and social work.

Interrupted Narratives and Intersectional Representations in Italian Postcolonial Literature
Interrupted Narratives and Intersectional Representations in Italian Postcolonial Literature
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031100425 | 411 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 3 MB
This book argues for the importance of adopting a postcolonial perspective in analysing contemporary Italian culture and literature. Originally published in Italian in 2018 as Riscrivere la nazione: La letteratura italiana postcoloniale, this new English translation brings to light the connections between the present, the colonial past and the great historical waves of international and intranational migration. By doing so, the book shows how a sense of Italian national identity emerged, at least in part, as the result of different migrations and why there is such a strong resistance in Italy to extending the privilege of italianità, or Italianness, to those who have arrived on Italian soil in recent years. Exploring over 100 texts written by migrant and second-generation writers, the book takes an intersectional approach to understanding gender and race in Italian identity. It connects these literary and cultural contexts to the Italian colonial past, while also looking outwards to a more diffuse postcolonial condition in Europe.
