Women of Perfection: Perfectly Imperfect by Stephanie Mearse
English | 2019 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B08111V5PY | 70 pages | EPUB | 0.20 Mb
Who is a perfectionist? I know I am. Are you a type A personality that wants everything done perfectly and always on point? Think back to the last time you really needed everything to be perfect? Was that yesterday? Well then you are more likely a perfectionist or Type A personality than not. From my experience being a perfectionist or Type A personality has its pros and cons. Some of the pros for me are that I have a checklist every day, week, month and year of items to be done. Sometimes my daily checklist consists of one- hundred things. Sometimes it's five things. So, the perfectionist in me must check off each items every day to really feel accomplished. The other pros are that my house, car, kids, office and myself is typically very clean and put together which on the outside seems fabulous! The con? Sometimes, I feel very overwhelmed by the number of things to do daily and if everything is not checked I feel like I have failed. Another con is if the house, car, kids, office or myself aren't on point I stress until that can be fixed. Are you the same way? Do you feel that you must have your house, car, office, kids, house and whatever else you do perfect?

Benton Rain Patterson, "With the Heart of a King: Elizabeth I of England, Philip II of Spain, and the Fight for a Nation's Soul and Crown"
English | ISBN: 0312348444 | 2007 | 352 pages | EPUB | 486 KB
Philip II of Spain, the most powerful monarch in sixteenth-century Europe and a ferocious empire-builder, was matched against the dauntless queen of England, Elizabeth I, determined to defend her country and thwart Philip's ambitions. Philip had been king of England while married to Elizabeth's half-sister, Bloody Mary Tudor, a devout Catholic. After Mary's untimely death, he courted Elizabeth, the new queen, and proposed marriage to her, hoping to build a permanent alliance between his country and hers and return England to the Catholic fold. Lukewarm to the Spanish alliance and resolute against a counterreformation, Elizabeth declined his proposal. When under her guidance England's maritime power grew to challenge Spain's rule of the sea and threaten its rich commerce, Philip became obsessed with the idea of a conquest of England and the restoration of Catholicism there, by fire and sword. Elizabeth-bold, brilliant, defiantly Protestant-became his worst enemy. In 1586 Philip began assembling the mighty Spanish Armada, and in May 1588 it sailed from Lisbon. With superior seamanship and strategies, Elizabeth's navy defeated and drove off the Spanish fleet. Forced to retreat around the northern coast of Ireland and Scotland, Philip's ships ran into violent storms that wreaked havoc. It was the rivalry's climactic event.

2010 | 272 Pages | ISBN: 080323290X | EPUB | 3 MB
This in-depth and comprehensive resource explores the intersection of religion, politics, and the supernatural that spawned the notorious witch hunts in Europe and the New World. Witch Hunts in the Western World traces the evolution of Western attitudes toward magic, demons, and religious nonconformity from the Roman Empire through the Age of Enlightenment, placing these chilling events into a wider social and historical context. Brian A. Pavlac discusses witch hunts in fascinating detail by region, highlighting the cultural differences of the people who incited them as well as the key reforms, social upheavals, and intellectual debates that shaped European thought. Vivid accounts of trials and excerpts from the writings of both witch hunters and defenders throughout the Holy Roman Empire, France, the British Isles and colonies, Southern Europe, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe bring to life one of the most intriguing and shocking issues in Western history. Accessible narrative chapters make this a fascinating volume for general readers while offering a wealth of historical information for students and scholars. Features include a complete glossary of terms, a timeline of major events, recommended reading selections, an index, and illustrations.

Deema Kaneff, "Who Owns the Past: The Politics of Time in a 'Model' Bulgarian Village"
English | 2006 | pages: 237 | ISBN: 1845452984, 1571815341 | PDF | 5,8 mb
In the decades since the collapse of socialism in eastern Europe, time has been a central resource under negotiation. Focusing on a local community that was considered a "model" in the socialist period, the author explores a variety of state-sponsored and unofficial pasts - history, folklore, and tradition - and shows how they "fit" together in everyday life. During the socialist period, the past was a central dimension of local politics and village identity. Post-socialist development has demanded a revaluation of temporality - as well as public and private space. This has led to fundamental changes in social life and political relations, reduced local resources, threatened village identity and transformed political activity through the emergence of new political elites.
