Free Download Infodemic Disorder: Covid-19 Coping Strategies in Europe, Canada and Mexico
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031136977 | 382 Pages | EPUB (True) | 15 MB
This contributed volume identifies how the information processes of public institutions and citizens have changed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, within a new context that emerged: the infodemic disorder. Public debate is largely characterized today by a crisis of the legitimacy of institutions, accompanied by a crisis of authority in public communication, leading to the emergency of a state of information disorder due specifically to the need to find information related to the coping of the pandemic. This condition is characterized by growing attention to issues related to 'fake news', 'misinformation', and 'media manipulation', that are intertwined in digital platform ecosystems, and the effects of which on democracy, public communication and research, and the sharing of information in the civic sphere are broad and far-reaching. This volume analyzes the links between communication strategies of public institutions, and the resulting citizen communication, in an attempt to tease out how communication processes have changed during the pandemic. It was decided to investigate this infodemic disorder as it appeared in three different geographical contexts: Europe, Canada and Mexico and, at the same time, to bring out the formal and informal coping strategies implemented by public institutions and citizens. Beginning with an introduction to the crisis of information created by the pandemic, the contributors build a theoretical framework, provide contagion data, and subsequently, for each of the geographical contexts analyzed, explore the public communication strategies and those activated by citizens seeking to share information.

Free Download India's Foreign Policy and Economic Challenges: Friends, Enemies and Controversies
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031202694 | 451 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 2.4 MB
This book provides a state-of-the-art analysis of India's foreign and security policies, examining e.g. the country's security, economic and trade ties and interactions with Pakistan, China, the United States, Japan, the Middle East and ASEAN. Furthermore, the contributors provide the reader with an overview and analysis of the quality and challenges of India's regional and global trade and investment policies. While in the past India has been a reluctant and not particularly prominent foreign and security policy actor in East and Southeast Asia as well as globally, China's resurgence and its assertive and increasingly aggressive regional security policies have led India's policymakers to reconsider the country's decades-old non-alignment policies and opt for expanding security and defence ties with the United States, Japan and others. The Indian-Chinese border clashes in 2020 and China's unlawful occupation of disputed territories along the Indian-Chinese border in the Himalayas have convinced Delhi's policymakers and the country's security and defence elites that India is well advised to join and contribute to US-led China containment policies. The expansion of India's security and defence ties with Japan over recent years in particular will continue to be instrumental to keeping Beijing's territorial expansionism in Southeast and South Asia in check.

Free Download Identity Construction and Illness Narratives in Persons with Disabilities (Interdisciplinary Disability Studies) by Chalotte Glintborg, Manuel L. de la Mata
2021 | ISBN: 0367898713, 0367539039 | English | 154 pages | PDF | 2.7 MB
This book investigates how being diagnosed with various disabilities impacts on identity. Once diagnosed with a disability, there is a risk that this label can become the primary status both for the person diagnosed as well as for their family. This reification of the diagnosis can be oppressive because it subjugates humanity in such a way that everything a person does can be interpreted as linked to their disability.

Free Download Humans: from the beginning: From the first apes to the first cities by Christopher Seddon
English | October 20, 2021 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B07JLBSJX8 | 811 pages | EPUB | 3.35 Mb
In just a few years, our understanding of the human past has changed beyond recognition as new discoveries and advances in genetic techniques overturn long-held beliefs and make international news. Drawing upon expert literature and the latest research, HUMANS: FROM THE BEGINNING is a rigorous but accessible guide to the human story, presenting an even-handed account of events from the first apes to the rise of the first cities and civilisations. Along the way, we learn about the emergence of modern human behaviour, prehistoric art, early modern human migrations from Africa, the peopling of the world, and how farming and agriculture replaced hunter-gathering. First published in 2014, HUMANS: FROM THE BEGINNING has been revised and updated for 2021, bringing it fully up to date with the latest developments. New finds include evidence that apelike hominids made stone tools; that small-brained Homo naledi lived alongside Homo sapiens in Africa; and that Neanderthals, Denisovans, and Homo sapiens all repeatedly interbred. There is also expanded coverage of ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, with new chapters on the Mesolithic and later prehistory of Europe, the Minoans and Mycenaeans, and the Late Bronze Age collapse of Eastern Mediterranean civilisation. Other topics such as Neanderthal symbolic behaviour and the origin of the Indo-European languages are re-examined in the light of the latest evidence. HUMANS: FROM THE BEGINNING is written for the non-specialist, but it is sufficiently comprehensive and well-referenced to serve as an ideal 'one-stop' text not only for undergraduate students, but also for postgraduates, researchers, and other academics seeking to broaden their knowledge.
