Free Download Untold Power: The Fascinating Rise and Complex Legacy of First Lady Edith Wilson (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0B5YJR3M4 | 2023 | 8 hours and 18 minutes | MP3@64 kbps | 228 MB
Author: Rebecca Boggs Roberts
Narrator: Saskia Maarleveld
A nuanced portrait of the first acting woman president, written with fresh and cinematic verve by a leading historian on women's suffrage and power. While this nation has yet to elect its first woman president-and though history has downplayed her role-just over a century ago a woman became the nation's first acting president. In fact, she was born in 1872, and her name was Edith Bolling Galt Wilson. She climbed her way out of Appalachian poverty and into the highest echelons of American power and in 1919 effectively acted as the first woman president of the U.S. (before women could even vote nationwide) when her husband, Woodrow Wilson, was incapacitated.

Free Download Understanding Cognitive Biases [TTC Audio]
English | January 06, 2023 | ASIN: B0BRQXCX2N | M4B@128 kbps | 10h 51m | 610 MB
Lecturer: Alexander B. Swan
As you read this sentence, your brain has just processed about 20 million bits of information. In fact, every second of every day, your brain processes about 11 million bits. And yet, that astonishing number just isn't enough to get you through your day. Consequently, your brain takes some shortcuts-and it's those shortcuts, called heuristics, that make it all work. Some shortcuts are completely benign and helpful-such as your ability to recognize your child even if half his face is in shadow or your ability to imagine tomorrow even though you will never actually see it.
The shortcuts of cognitive biases, however-when the brain fills in gaps of solid, reliable information with a lot of guesswork for efficiency's sake-can lead to errors of memory and judgment and cause faulty decision-making with unintended, even dire, consequences. For example, take confirmation bias. This tendency to consider only information that confirms our existing beliefs can cause us to make incorrect assumptions about the cause of a coworker's behavior, misinterpret experimental data, or even make disastrous engineering decisions resulting in loss of life.

English | ASIN: B0BVDM2T5J | 2023 | 13 hours and 49 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 376 MB
Author: Nick Groom
Narrator: Mike Grady
What is it about Middle-Earth and its inhabitants that has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world? And why does Tolkien's visionary creation continue to fascinate and inspire us eighty-five years on from its first appearance? Beginning with Tolkien's earliest influences and drawing on key moments from his life, Twenty-First-Century Tolkien is an engaging and radical reinterpretation of the beloved author's work. Not only does it trace the genesis of the original books, it also explores the later adaptations and reworkings that cemented his reputation as a cultural phenomenon, including Peter Jackson's blockbuster films of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and the highly anticipated TV series The Rings of Power. Delving deep into topics such as friendship, failure, the environment, diversity, and Tolkien's place in a post-COVID age, Nick Groom takes us on an unexpected journey through Tolkien's world, revealing how it is more relevant now than ever before.

Free Download Travelers to Unimaginable Lands: Stories of Dementia, the Caregiver, and the Human Brain (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0B5FRFWDD | 2023 | 5 hours and 53 minutes | MP3@64 kbps | 162 MB
Author: Dasha Kiper
Narrator: Holly Linneman
These compelling case histories meld science and storytelling to illuminate the complex relationship between the mind of someone with dementia and the mind of the person caring for them. After getting a master's degree in clinical psychology, Dasha Kiper became the live-in caregiver for a Holocaust survivor with Alzheimer's disease. For a year, she endured the emotional strain of looking after a person whose condition disrupts the rules of time, order, and continuity. Inspired by her own experience and her work counseling caregivers in the subsequent decade, Kiper offers an entirely new way to understand the symbiotic relationship between patients and those tending to them. Her book is the first to examine how the workings of the "healthy" brain prevent us from adapting to and truly understanding the cognitively impaired one.

Free Download The True History of Merlin the Magician (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0BWGZ237H | 2023 | 8 hours and 42 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 249 MB
Author: Anne Lawrence-Mathers
Narrator: Jennifer M. Dixon
A medieval historian examines what we really know about the man who was "Merlin the Magician" and his impact on Britain. The historical Merlin was no rough magician: he was a learned figure from the cutting edge of medieval science and adept in astrology, cosmology, prophecy, and natural magic, as well as being a seer and a proto-alchemist. His powers were convincingly real-and useful, for they helped to add credibility to the "long-lost" history of Britain which first revealed them to a European public. Merlin's prophecies reassuringly foretold Britain's path, establishing an ancient ancestral line and linking biblical prophecy with more recent times. Merlin helped to put British history into world history. Linking Merlin's reality and power with the culture of the Middle Ages, this remarkable book reveals the true impact of the most famous magician of all time.
