Does Television Make You Fat Lifestyle and Obesity
Free Download Rae Simons, "Does Television Make You Fat?: Lifestyle and Obesity"
English | 2010 | pages: 50 | ISBN: 1422217124, 1422219003 | PDF | 4,1 mb
We don't move around as much today as people did even thirty years ago. Many grownups have jobs where they sit at desks all day. Kids go to school, where they sit at desks for most of the day, too. And then in the evenings, grownups and kids come home and sit some more. They turn on the television. They sit down in front of their computers. And they don't get enough exercise. This means that people often don't use the calories they eat. Instead, the extra calories get stored as fat. That's part of the reason why so many people in the world are overweight today. What's the answer? It's simple-get moving!

Dictionary of Dogmatic Theology
Free Download Dictionary of Dogmatic Theology By Pietro Parente; Antonio Piolante; Salvatore Garafalo
2013 | 336 Pages | ISBN: 1493695401 | PDF | 58 MB
For those Catholics, who wish to go beyond the Catechism but not dive into deep theological works, this book was prepared. It is for the knowledgable layman and serves as an excellent companion to those wishing to do research along side The Sources of Catholic Dogma and Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma. It is not in order to follow the fashion of our hurried day with its predilection for outlines, condensations, and telegraphic style, but to fill the need of a class of Christians for whom the catechism is too little and theology too much, that we have set about compiling this brief DICTIONARY OF DOGMATIC THEOLOGY for laymen. It should be judged according to its purpose: choice of the entries and their development, style, bibliography - all must be considered in relation to the reader, who is the cultured layman. To achieve brevity and clarity, we have sacrificed erudition, dialectic virtuosity, technical formalism, and many other things. What we have set our hearts on doing is to enlighten the mind of the reader by presenting the substance of dogmatic doctrine in a form that is pleasing to the nontheologian and that conveys synthetically but faithfully the riches hidden in the scholastic formulas. Both the choice of entries and their manner of treatment prove difficult in works of this kind. It has been our desire, in this first attempt, to present an all-inclusive work, but we do not presume to have successfully accomplished this end. The readers will judge and their observations and suggestions will be a guide in any future attempts. Two able colleagues have collaborated with me, and others have been generous in their counsels: Professor Piolanti, whose name I wish to place next to my own, has treated the sacramental and ecclesiastical material. We indulge the hope that our labor is not in vain.

Cyprus and the Renaissance (1450–1650)
Free Download Cyprus and the Renaissance (1450-1650) By Benjamin Arbel; Evelien Chayes; Harald Hendrix (Eds.)
2012 | 470 Pages | ISBN: 2503541925 | PDF | 7 MB
The present collection is the first of its kind centered on intellectual exchanges during the Renaissance period, deepening their source-based documentary study, as well as our knowledge of the island's culture and heritage in relation to political, scholarly and religious life in Western countries. These twelve essays by leading scholars in the field are products of an international research project on early modern Cyprus and its relation to cultural developments in the West, started in November 2009.Cyprus, an independent 'Frankish' kingdom from 1191 to 1473, became a Venetian protectorate, then, in 1489, a Venetian colony until its conquest by the Ottomans in 1570. Its population was diverse and rich in religious experience - preponderantly followers of the Greek rite, but also Latins, Eastern Christians and Jews. Its heritage from Antiquity, as well as from the Byzantine and Frankish periods, its monasteries (which received, reproduced and produced manuscripts) and its geopolitically pivotal site on East-West trade routes attracted numerous Westerners. The cultural magnet drew deeper interests than those of pilgrimage and tourism. The continuous to and fro of Europeans, many of them Venetian, the island's importance to economic and military strategies, and the allure conferred by a mythological past stimulated and fostered a generous descriptive and allusive literature. The present collection is the first of its kind, centered on written culture and exchanges during the Renaissance period, deepening their source-based documentary study, as well as our knowledge of the island's culture and heritage in relation to cultural developments in Western countries.

Covid–19 Pandemic Problems Arising in Health and Social Policy
Free Download Covid-19 Pandemic: Problems Arising in Health and Social Policy
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9819924960 | 523 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 18 MB
This book presents an overview of social problems and health problems that arose out of, or were flared up by, the global COVID-19 pandemic. It addresses most vital problems in developed and developing countries from literally around the world, by top country experts in their respective fields of study. The book debates first certain overall thematic topics and then analyzes a number of key country case studies. Apart from a set of key theme/problem-based chapters, the country case studies from major-hit countries in the world are yet another highlight of the book. They also feature, in addition to analyzing the pandemic and policy responses per se, one extra special focal point each. The book hence covers the core of most severe social problems, including health problems, that have been spurred or set off by the COVID-19 pandemic. An overall theory chapter that uses a global data analysis and a short theoretical appraisal on the 'human face' of the Pandemic is also offered at the beginning of book, to bring back humanity and human decency (i.e. decency of the human condition) into the scientific debate as well as policy making arena, which is utterly needed at this point of human development.

Counterpunch is both an explanation of the 16th-century method ofcutting metal type and an impassioned plea for contemporary designers to incorporate the lessons of history as a means of creating typography in our digital age. Smeijers sees the counterpunch technique as essential for ensuring the regularity of form, repeatability, and speed of production necessary for rational design.Smeijers traces the history of letterform design to discover how technique influenced the shape of type, whether the metal punches of the past or today's computer-generated forms. Counterpunch is generouslyillustrated with drawings by the author, examples of early type specimens, and detailed photographs of punches.
