Integrated Project Design From Academia to the AEC Industry
Free Download Integrated Project Design: From Academia to the AEC Industry by Bárbara Rangel, Ana Sofia Guimarães, Jorge Moreira da Costa, João Pedro Poças Martins
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 199 Pages | ISBN : 3031324242 | 79.2 MB
Integrated Project Design/Delivery is not new, but in recent years, it has been achieving the status of yet another acronym, more connected to its contractual details than to the actual meaning of the profound change in how work is to be developed. This book clarifies this situation by presenting several examples in academia, research and practical design situations, ranging from the use of old-style expression media, such as handmade drawings, to comprehensive digitalisation processes. The IPD model is shown as an effective way to tackle the ever-increasing challenges of balancing productivity with the urgent demands for designs that embrace decarbonisation, net-zero buildings, energy efficiency, modularisation and disassembly, including lessons learned from Industrial Design. IPD is a mindset that clashes with the traditional academic model of placing architecture and engineering in different (and frequently opposite) fields. Actual examples of course syllabuses' that disrupt this approach are also presented, showing how wide collaboration from the early stages of the design process can improve the sought-after result, providing future professionals with a hands-on experience of its efficiency as a work methodology.

Free Download Sexual Misconduct in Academia: Informing an Ethics of Care in the University
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032277513 | 261 Pages | PDF (True) | 16 MB
By bringing a wide range of lived experiences of students, staff and researchers out of their current marginalised positions within academic discussions, the book offers a deeper understanding of sexual misconduct in the academy for both students and staff. Each of the chapters offers not only opportunities for conversation and reflection, but addresses and suggests what responses to academic sexual misconduct could and should involve. By presenting collective accounts of experiencing, witnessing, researching and writing about sexual misconduct in academic spaces, Sexual Misconduct in Academia examines how to develop ethical pedagogical practices, if an ethics of care is to be truly implemented or transformed.

Ableism in Academia Theorising Experiences of Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses in Higher Education
Ableism in Academia: Theorising Experiences of Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses in Higher Education By Nicole Brown; Jennifer Leigh
2021 | 241 Pages | ISBN: 1787354997 | PDF | 4 MB
Rather than embracing difference, academic ecosystems seek to normalize and homogenize ways of working and of being a researcher. As a consequence, ableism is an endemic experience in academia, though to date no attempt has been made to theorize those experiences. Ableism in Academia provides an interdisciplinary outlook on ableism that is currently missing. Through reporting of research data and exploring personal experiences, the contributors explore the concept of what it means to be and to work outside the so-called norm. The volume brings together a range of perspectives, including feminism, post-structuralism, Derridean and Foucauldian theory, crip theory, and disability theory, and draws on a number of related disciplines. Contributors use various schools of theory to raise awareness and increase understanding of the marginalized. These theories are placed in the context of neoliberal academia, and used to interrogate aspects of identity and how disability is performed, and to argue that ableism is not just a disability issue. This timely collection will be of interest to researchers in disability studies, higher education studies, and sociology, as well as to those working across the social sciences.

Hypnosis in Academia
Hypnosis in Academia: Contemporary Challenges in Research, Healthcare and Education
English | 2023 | ISBN: 303122874X | 361 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 3 MB
This book analyzes the growing presence of hypnosis in academic settings around the world and its implications for research, healthcare and education. The increasing volume of scientific research on hypnosis and its clinical applications to treat health conditions such as pain, anxiety, trauma and depression has renewed the interest for this kind of practice in different disciplines, such as medicine, psychology, dentistry and nursing. As a result of this growing interest, there is an increasing number of spaces occupied by hypnosis in universities of different countries compared to what occurred in recent decades. Nevertheless, what this means, at various levels, is still far from being deciphered, due to the absence of more detailed research and surveys involving a larger number of institutions, students, faculty and research groups.
