Choosing Terror Virtue, Friendship, and Authenticity in the French Revolution
Free Download Marisa Linton, "Choosing Terror: Virtue, Friendship, and Authenticity in the French Revolution"
English | 2015 | pages: 334 | ISBN: 0198733097, 0199576300 | PDF | 2,2 mb
Choosing Terror: Virtue, Friendship and Authenticity in the French Revolution examines the leaders of the French Revolution - Robespierre and his fellow Jacobins - and particularly the gradual process whereby many of them came to 'choose terror'. These men led the Jacobin Club between 1789 and 1794, and were attempting to establish new democratic politics in France. Exploring revolutionary politics through the eyes of these leaders, and against a political backdrop of a series of traumatic events, wars, and betrayals, Marisa Linton portrays the Jacobins as complex human beings who were influenced by emotions and personal loyalties, as well as by their revolutionary ideology.

Authentic Reconstruction Authenticity, Architecture and the Built Heritage
Free Download John Bold, "Authentic Reconstruction: Authenticity, Architecture and the Built Heritage"
English | ISBN: 147428406X | 2017 | 352 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Notions of authenticity lie at the heart of many questions about heritage and identity in the built environment. These questions are most pertinent when buildings have been destroyed in disaster or war, and the built fabric is being reconstructed to reinstate traditional or historic appearances in place of what was lost.

Colonial Ambivalence, Cultural Authenticity, and the Limitations of Mimicry in French-Ruled West Africa, 1914-1956
Free Download James E. Genova, "Colonial Ambivalence, Cultural Authenticity, and the Limitations of Mimicry in French-Ruled West Africa, 1914-1956"
English | 2004 | pages: 318 | ISBN: 0820469416 | PDF | 61,9 mb
Colonial Ambivalence, Cultural Authenticity, and the Limitations of Mimicry in French-Ruled West Africa, 1914-1956 offers an innovative and provocative reassessment of the history and legacies of French colonial rule in West Africa between the First World War and the late 1950s. Making critical use of postcolonial and cultural theory, James E. Genova argues that the colonizers and the colonized were locked in a struggle for authority increasingly structured by competing notions of what it meant to be French or African. This book breaks new ground by demonstrating the centrality of the cultural question in the imperial encounters between France and West Africa. It maps the emergence of the French-educated elite as a social class in French West Africa as a window into the complex relationship between agency and structural context in the making of history. A disjunction developed between decolonization and liberation in the colonial liaison of France and West Africa that left colonizers and colonized trapped in a neocolonial cultural framework actualizing Frantz Fanon's deepest fears about the postcolony.

Authenticity as Self-Transcendence The Enduring Insights of Bernard Lonergan
Free Download Michael H. McCarthy, "Authenticity as Self-Transcendence: The Enduring Insights of Bernard Lonergan"
English | ISBN: 0268205787 | 2022 | 456 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Michael H. McCarthy has carefully studied the writings of Bernard Lonergan (Canadian philosopher-theologian, 1904-1984) for over fifty years. In his 1989 book, The Crisis of Philosophy, McCarthy argued for the superiority of Lonergan's distinctive philosophical project to those of his analytic and phenomenological rivals. Now in Authenticity as Self-Transcendence: The Enduring Insights of Bernard Lonergan, he develops and expands his earlier argument with four new essays, designed to show Lonergan's exceptional relevance to the cultural situation of late modernity. The essays explore and appraise Lonergan's cultural mission: to raise Catholic philosophy and theology to meet the intellectual challenges and standards of his time.

Inventing Authenticity How Cookbook Writers Redefine Southern Identity
Carrie Helms Tippen, "Inventing Authenticity: How Cookbook Writers Redefine Southern Identity "
English | ISBN: 168226064X | 2018 | 212 pages | EPUB | 1088 KB
In Inventing Authenticity, Carrie Helms Tippen examines the rhetorical power of storytelling in cookbooks to fortify notions of southernness. Tippen brings to the table her ongoing hunt for recipe cards and evaluates a wealth of cookbooks with titles like Y'all Come Over and Bless Your Heart and famous cookbooks such as Sean Brock's Heritage and Edward Lee's Smoke and Pickles. She examines her own southern history, grounding it all in a thorough understanding of the relevant literature. The result is a deft and entertaining dive into the territory of southern cuisine-"black-eyed peas and cornbread, fried chicken and fried okra, pound cake and peach cobbler,"-and a look at and beyond southern food tropes that reveals much about tradition, identity, and the yearning for authenticity.

Emotions as Commodities Capitalism, Consumption and Authenticity
Eva Illouz, "Emotions as Commodities: Capitalism, Consumption and Authenticity "
English | ISBN: 1138628239 | 2017 | 222 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Capitalism has made rationality into a pervasive feature of human action and yet, far from heralding a loss of emotionality, capitalist culture has been accompanied with an unprecedented intensification of emotional life. This raises the question: how could we have become increasingly rationalized and more intensely emotional?
