2019 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 1080471588 | PDF | 2 MB
Is the Loch Ness Monster real? What about other water-cryptids? Is there any such thing as a Sasquatch or Yeti? Do large cats and demonic black dogs roam the English countryside? What are the sinister Black Eyed Children and the shadow beings that terrify so many? Are vampires real? Is lycanthropy plausible? Do UFOs exists and if so, what are they? In this follow-up to the seminal first work of 'Towards a Conquest of the Paranormal', Ansir Levi here turns his attention away from hauntings and the activities of spirits. Focussing now upon the phenomena of cryptids, mythical beings, and UFOs, Levi here further develops his profound hypothesis as to the nature of such and provides the answers to the questions above. Levi's study, like his earlier works and his musings that feature on the 'Inquirers into the Strange' podcast, is an indispensable asset in the arsenal of all who date to inquire into the paranormal and the truth as to the nature of our reality. For those who undertake practical investigations, Levi provides a framework of inquiry upon which to base their work. The overarching hypothesis of Levi is of equal value to all who take a philosophical approach, especially those who are open to the notions of Keel and Vallee.

The Conquest of Santarém and Goswin's Song of the Conquest of Alcácer do Sal Editions and Translations of De expugnatio
Free Download Jonathan Wilson, "The Conquest of Santarém and Goswin's Song of the Conquest of Alcácer do Sal: Editions and Translations of De expugnatio"
English | ISBN: 0367753812 | 2021 | 200 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
Achieved at the height of the Crusades, the Christian conquests of Santarém in 1147 by King Afonso I, and of Alcácer do Sal in 1217 by Portuguese forces and northern European warriors on their way by sea to Palestine, were crucial events in the creation of the independent kingdom of Portugal. The two texts presented here survive in their unique, thirteenth-century manuscript copies appended to a codex belonging to one of Europe's most important monastic library collections accumulated in the Cistercian abbey of Alcobaça, founded c. 1153 by Bernard of Clairvaux. Accompanied by comprehensive introductions and here translated into English for the first time, these extraordinary texts are based on eyewitness testimony of the conquests. They contain much detail for the military historian, including data on operational tactics and the ideology of Christian holy war in the twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. Literary historians too will be delighted by the astonishing styles deployed, demonstrating considerable authorial flamboyance, flair and innovation. While they are likely written by Goswin of Bossut, the search for authorship yields an impressive array of literary friends and associates, including James of Vitry, Thomas of Cantimpré, Oliver of Paderborn and Caesarius of Heisterbach.

Author: Waldemar Heckel
Narrator: James Cameron Stewart

This book offers a fresh insight into the conquests of Alexander the Great by attempting to view the events of 336-323 BCE from the vantage point of the defeated. The extent and form of the resistance of the populations he confronted varied according to their previous relationships with either the Macedonian invaders or their own Achaemenid rulers. The internal political situations of many states - particularly the Greek cities of Asia Minor - were also a factor. In the vast Persian Empire that stretched from the Aegean to the Indus, some states surrendered voluntarily and others offered fierce resistance. Not all regions were subdued through military actions. Indeed, as the author argues, the excessive use of force on Alexander's part was often ineffective and counterproductive.

Military-political conflict―and the resulting factionalism, shifts in leadership, and divergent belief systems―has been a constant and crucial part of the Islamic world. In order to fully grasp the cultural, social, or political aspects of Islam in the modern world, it is necessary to comprehend the rich tapestry of Islamic history from pre-Islamic times to the present, much of which involved armed conflict.

Landscapes of the Norman Conquest
Landscapes of the Norman Conquest by Trevor Rowley
English | November 4, 2022 | ISBN: 1526724286 | True EPUB | 368 pages | 73.4 MB
For a long time, the Norman Conquest has been viewed as a turning point in English history; an event which transformed English identity, sovereignty, kingship, and culture. The years between 1066 and 1086 saw the largest transfer of property ever seen in English History, comparable in scale, if not greater, than the revolutions in France in 1789 and Russia in 1917. This transfer and the means to achieve it had a profound effect upon the English and Welsh landscape, an impact that is clearly visible almost 1,000 years afterwards.
