Beginning in 1989, more than 8,000 men disappeared in Kashmir. These disappearances were publicly denied, leaving mourners to grapple with unrecognized grief. Drawn from ten years of psycho-historical research in Kashmir, Shifa Haq reflects on the bereaved families' intricate experiences of mourning. Forgotten Kashmir The Other Side of the Line of Control
Free Download Forgotten Kashmir: The Other Side of the Line of Control by Srivastava, Dinkar P.
English | February 13, 2021 | ISBN: 9390327768 | 304 pages | EPUB | 0.45 Mb
"Forgotten Kashmir examines the evolution of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) over the past seven decades. It includes major milestones like the tribal invasion in 1947-48, the Sudhan revolt in the 1950s, the Ayub era, the Simla Agreement, the adoption of an Interim Constitution of 1974 and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is not simply an historical account but one that analyses the events in PoK against the background of developments in Pakistan s polity and the situation within PoK to better understand Pakistan s motivations for its policies in the region. The book delves into contentious issues, such as the right of self-determination (distinct from the concept of plebiscite) that is central to the debate on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). For a fuller understanding, the issue is examined considering positions of principal actors, particularly the United Kingdom up to the 1950s. More recently, Chinese presence in the region has grown with the development of the CPEC that runs through the Northern Areas, now renamed Gilgit-Baltistan . The author, a seasoned diplomat, provides a wealth of information that comes from his involvement in the Jammu and Kashmir issue at India s Ministry of External Affairs and discussions at the United Nations, his stint in Karachi, and as a member of bilateral working groups to counter terrorism with the US, EU, UK and Canada."

Poetry as Prayer in the Sanskrit Hymns of Kashmir
Free Download Poetry as Prayer in the Sanskrit Hymns of Kashmir By Hamsa Stainton
2019 | 352 Pages | ISBN: 0190889810 | PDF | 32 MB
Historically, Kashmir was one of the most dynamic and influential centers of Sanskrit learning and literary production in South Asia. In Poetry as Prayer in the Sanskrit Hymns of Kashmir, Hamsa Stainton investigates the close connection between poetry and prayer in South Asia by studying the history of Sanskrit hymns of praise (stotras) in Kashmir. The book provides a broad introduction to the history and general features of the stotra genre, and it charts the course of these literary hymns in Kashmir from the eighth century to the present. In particular, it offers the first major study in any European language of the Stutikusum=ajali, an important work of religious literature dedicated to the god 'Siva and one of the only extant witnesses to the trajectory of Sanskrit literary culture in fourteenth-century Kashmir. The book also contributes to the study of 'Saivism by examining the ways in which 'Saiva poets have integrated the traditions of Sanskrit literature and poetics, theology (especially non-dualism), and 'Saiva worship and devotion. It substantiates the diverse configurations of 'Saiva bhakti expressed and explored in these literary hymns and the challenges they present for standard interpretations of Hindu bhakti. More broadly, this study of stotras from Kashmir offers new perspectives on the history and vitality of prayer in South Asia and its complex relationships to poetry and poetics.

For spiritual seekers of any sort, with a true interest in understanding the nature of Tantra. This book will finally provide true insight into the ways and means of Tantric philosophy. The present work is an exposition of the philosophy and religionofthe Trika system, popularly known as Kashmir Saivism. Kashmir Saivism is the most prominent system of the Tantric traditional on. The author considers Kashmir Śaivism the true or central philosophy of Tantrism. In this book, he attempts to present alogical analysis of the Tantric position of Abhinavagupta. He has also shown, according to his understanding, what remains unresolved and unanswered in his philosophy, but he admits that in the present work he is mainly playing the role of advocate of Abhinavagupta rather than critic. He is trying (a) to justify the Tantric position from the rational point of view, (b) to work out aconsistent philosophy of Kashmir Saivism, (c) to present the rationale of the abstruse Tantric tradition, (d) to trace out and clarify the inner thread of logic running through the entire system of thought, and (e) to demonstrate the soundness and significance of Kashmir Śaivism.

Kashmir in the Shadow of War Regional Rivalries in a Nuclear Age
Kashmir in the Shadow of War: Regional Rivalries in a Nuclear Age By Robert G. Wirsing
2003 | 272 Pages | ISBN: 0765610892 | PDF | 26 MB
This timely study examines the Indian-Pakistani conflict over Kashmir as this long-standing confrontation between regional rivals became inflamed. It focuses on the period from the effective nuclearization of the dispute in 1998 to the introduction of U.S. troops into the region in connection with the war in Afghanistan. Four chapters take on key problems illustrated by this case: Regional rivalry, Intervention, Religious conflicts, Conflict resolution. The author is an advocate of international intervention in regional conflicts and does not think that leaving the contesting parties to settle their dispute (a sort of benign neglect) is a responsible U.S. policy.
