Films for the Colonies Cinema and the Preservation of the British Empire
Free Download Films for the Colonies: Cinema and the Preservation of the British Empire By Tom Rice
2019 | 343 Pages | ISBN: 0520300386 | PDF | 32 MB
Films for the Colonies examines the British Government's use of film across its vast Empire from the 1920s until widespread independence in the 1960s. Central to this work was the Colonial Film Unit, which produced, distributed, and, through its network of mobile cinemas, exhibited instructional and educational films throughout the British colonies. Using extensive archival research and rarely seen films, Films for the Colonies provides a new historical perspective on the last decades of the British Empire. It also offers a fresh exploration of British and global cinema, charting the emergence and endurance of new forms of cinema culture from Ghana to Jamaica, Malta to Malaysia. In highlighting the integral role of film in managing and maintaining a rapidly changing Empire, Tom Rice offers a compelling and far-reaching account of the media, propaganda, and the legacies of colonialism.

Life Preservation in Genesis and Exodus An Exegetical Study of the Teba of Noah and Moses
Free Download Joshua Joel Spoelstra, "Life Preservation in Genesis and Exodus: An Exegetical Study of the Teba of Noah and Moses "
English | ISBN: 9042940719 | 2020 | 418 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Teby is found exclusively in Gen 6-9 and Exod 2:1-10 for the vessels of Noah and Moses, respectively. Suggestive of an inter-textual relationship, tebyis exegetically investigated to identify its source language and meaning to thereby determine its biblical appropriation and theological signification. Once the Flood Narrative and Foundling Narrative are synchronically and diachronically analysed, Babylonian and Egyptian languages, literature, and lexemes are examined to determine the source of teby; also, a recension history of scriptural traditions and daughter translations of the Flood and Foundling Narratives is charted. Exod 15:1-21 is examined, further, to extend the narratival arch of Exod to match that of Gen 6-9, which includes synthetic cosmological and covenantal elements, and temple ideology. Theologically, therefore, the multivocality of teby intimates God's enshrined protection of a person from threat of death unto renewed life; thus, teby is a terminus technicus for a life-preserving receptacle.

Nature's Diplomats Science, Internationalism, and Preservation, 1920-1960
Raf De Bont, "Nature's Diplomats: Science, Internationalism, and Preservation, 1920-1960 "
English | ISBN: 0822946610 | 2021 | 384 pages | PDF | 60 MB
Nature's Diplomats explores the development of science-based and internationally conceived nature protection in its foundational years before the 1960s, the decade when it launched from obscurity onto the global stage. Raf De Bont studies a movement while it was still in the making and its groups were still rather small, revealing the geographies of the early international preservationist groups, their social composition, self-perception, ethos, and predilections, their ideals and strategies, and the natures they sought to preserve.

The Paradox of Preservation Wilderness and Working Landscapes at Point Reyes National Seashore
Laura Alice Watt, "The Paradox of Preservation: Wilderness and Working Landscapes at Point Reyes National Seashore"
English | ISBN: 0520277082 | 2016 | 368 pages | EPUB | 13 MB
Point Reyes National Seashore has a long history as a working landscape, with dairy and beef ranching, fishing, and oyster farming; yet, since 1962 it has also been managed as a National Seashore. The Paradox of Preservation chronicles how national ideals about what a park "ought to be" have developed over time and what happens when these ideals are implemented by the National Park Service (NPS) in its efforts to preserve places that are also lived-in landscapes. Using the conflict surrounding the closure of the Drakes Bay Oyster Company, Laura Alice Watt examines how NPS management policies and processes for land use and protection do not always reflect the needs and values of local residents. Instead, the resulting landscapes produced by the NPS represent a series of compromises between use and protection-and between the area's historic pastoral character and a newer vision of wilderness. A fascinating and deeply researched book,
