Walking practices are experiencing a revival in the post-millennial world. Chief among these is the discipline of pilgrimage. The purpose of this research was to explore the pilgrimage trope as a pathway to spiritual renewal for Ottawa's Shepherds of Good Hope (SGH) volunteers. A form of substitute pilgrimage identified as 'virtual pilgrimage' was adapted to simulate the last 100 km of the Camino de Santiago trail. A purposive random sample of twelve SGH volunteers (six men and six women) walked the distance virtually, over a period of six weeks. Each week, the participants were given a reflection question to focus their walks and their journal accounts. The research methodology was configured around Richard Osmer's four-task cycle for practical theological research. The data was collected by way of a questionnaire, a focus group, and the participants' journal accounts. NVIVO software was used to analyze the data, and Stephen Bevans' "Praxis Model" was used to interpret the results. Virtual pilgrimage encompasses many of the themes associated with the traditional distance pilgrimage, including suspension of regular routines, intentionality, experiences of blessedness and beauty, and encounters with sacred mystery that inspired social action. The results showed that virtual pilgrimage contains the same facility for spiritual renewal as the traditional, distance pilgrimage, with potential wide-ranging applications in the health, human, and social services fields.

2013 | 248 Pages | ISBN: 1594037027 | EPUB | 1 MB
In the wake of the clergy abuse scandal of the last decade, many media commentators predicted the "end" of the Catholic priesthood. Demands for an end to celibacy, coupled with calls for women's ordination, dominated discussions on the effectiveness of the Catholic Church in America.Renewalargues that rather than a decline of the priesthood and a diminishing influence of the Catholic Church, we are living in a time of transformation and revitalization. The aging generation of progressives that continues to lobby Church leaders to change Catholic teachings on reproductive rights, same-sex marriage and women's ordination is being replaced by younger men and women who are attracted to the Church because of the very timelessness of its teachings.

Outreach And Renewal A First-Millennium Legacy for the Third-Millennium Church
Free Download Outreach And Renewal: A First-Millennium Legacy for the Third-Millennium Church By James McSherry
2011 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0879072369 | EPUB | 1 MB
This work represents a novel treatment of the mission of the Church fathers, the early Christian ascetics, and their disciples during the turbulent centuries that followed the passing of the apostles. Approaching a normally arcane subject largely through the interplay of character and incident,Outreach and Renewalprovides a stirring account of the various ways in which spiritual leaders of the time promoted the Gospel message. Readers experience these leaders as they illuminate, strengthen, restore, or defend the faith, through their words and actions, of fellow Christians. Facilitating fresh insights and thought-provoking conclusions, the theme proceeds through the interaction of a varied cast of vital individuals engaged in lively and sometimes acerbic discourse, which is always aimed at the glory of God. With the careful attention the author gives to the early Irish church and its singular representatives, this work is a unique and valuable contribution to the study of the patristic era.

Its success is incontrovertible, with the exponential increase in techniques and innovations. Rapid advances in new technologies such as artificial intelligence, as well as current societal needs - sustainable development, climate change, renewable energy, the environment - are developments that must be taken into account in industrial renewal. Process Engineering Renewal 2 focuses on research in process engineering, which is partly overshadowed by the sciences that contribute to its development. The external constraints of this interface science must be seen in relation to conservation, sustainable development, global warming, etc., which are linked to current success and the difficulty of taking risks in research.

The Historical Mind Humanistic Renewal in a Post-Constitutional Age
The Historical Mind: Humanistic Renewal in a Post-Constitutional Age By Justin D. Garrison (editor), Ryan R. Holston (editor)
2020 | 326 Pages | ISBN: 1438478437 | PDF | 2 MB
Timely and provocative asessment of various cultural, moral, and political problems in "post-constitutional" America.America is increasingly defined not only by routine disregard for its fundamental laws, but also by the decadent character of its political leaders and citizens―widespread consumerism and self-indulgent behavior, cultural hedonism and anarchy, the coarsening of moral and political discourse, and a reckless interventionism in international relations. In The Historical Mind, various scholars argue that America's problems are rooted in its people's refusal to heed the lessons of historical experience and to adopt "constitutional" checks or self-imposed restraints on their cultural, moral, and political lives. Drawing inspiration from the humanism of Irving Babbitt and Claes G. Ryn, the contributors offer a timely and provocative assessment of the American present and contend that only a humanistic order guided by the wisdom of historical consciousness has genuine promise for facilitating fresh thinking about the renewal of American culture, morality, and politics.
