Seeing Degree Zero BarthesBurgin and Political Aesthetics
Free Download Ryan Bishop, "Seeing Degree Zero: Barthes/Burgin and Political Aesthetics "
English | ISBN: 1474431410 | 2019 | 456 pages | PDF | 45 MB
In the fields of literature and the visual arts, 'zero degree' represents a neutral aesthetic situated in response to, and outside of, the dominant cultural order. Taking Roland Barthes' 1953 book Writing Degree Zero as just one starting point, this volume examines the historical, theoretical and visual impact of the term and draws directly upon the editors' ongoing collaboration with artist and writer Victor Burgin. The book is composed of key chapters by the editors and Burgin, a series of collaborative texts with Burgin and four commissioned essays concerned with the relationship between Barthes and Burgin in the context of the spectatorship of art. It includes an in-depth dialogue regarding Burgin's long-term reading of Barthes and a lengthy image-text, offering critical exploration of the Image (in echo of earlier theories of the Text). Also included are translations of two projections works by Burgin, 'Belledonne' and 'Prairie', which work alongside and inform the collected essays. Overall, the book provides a combined reading of both Barthes and Burgin, which in turn leads to new considerations of visual culture, the spectatorship of art and the political aesthetic.

The early chapters build a solid understanding of privilege and power, leading to a critical exploration of discrimination. Key theoretical perspectives include cultural materialism, critical race theory, and the social construction of race. Each chapter includes discussion questions to help students evaluate institutions and policies that perpetuate or counter forces of privilege and discrimination.

Among today's most successful businesses are those that have significantly transformed our daily routines. This focus on the consumer experience, not solely on product, has enabled them to drive remarkable growth and customer loyalty and, in many cases, to create totally new marketplace categories. Seeing the How invites you to reimagine your brand, company, or idea through the lens of consumer experience. It gives today's disruptors a path to offering consumers a new and better way to do what they do, clearly demonstrating how to see opportunities, and how to seize them to great advantage. Two years ago, Zoom was unknown to most, six years ago, Netflix was a DVD delivery service. We ride in Ubers and stay with our families in Airbnb homes. We share Spotify playlists, refresh our closets with Bonobos, and pamper our pets with Chewy. We set up meetings with Calendly and pay bills with Venmo.

LightQuest Your Guide to Seeing and Interacting with UFOs, Mystery Lights and Plasma Intelligences
Free Download Andrew Collins, "LightQuest: Your Guide to Seeing and Interacting with UFOs, Mystery Lights and Plasma Intelligences"
English | 2012 | pages: 456 | ISBN: 0940829495 | PDF | 6,0 mb
LightQuest is a startling new way to embrace and investigate the UFO phenomenon. Since the modern flying saucer era began in 1947 we have been conditioned to see UFOs as interplanetary craft and their occupants either as intergalactic ambassadors or invaders from space. Tales of crashed saucers, ancient aliens, crop circles, and alien abductions dominate UFO literature and media presentations, but has this led us astray? Evidence now points to UFOs, mystery lights, and alien intelligences being far more exotic than we have ever imagined. They now can be seen as sentient energy forms and complex plasma constructs manifestations of a higher dimensional reality that has co-existed with the human race since time immemorial, and was in the past seen as the Realm of Faerie. This book embraces a new understanding of the UFO phenomenon by accepting that its existence is deeply rooted in everything from quantum entanglement to multi-dimensional experiences, strange worlds that interpenetrate our own, and psychic communications. Even the alien abduction is described, defined and clearly understood for the first time. LightQuest is also a field guide to some of Britain and the United States' top UFO hotspots: where to go, what to do, and what exactly you might expect to see there. It also includes a creative visualization to be used by light questers worldwide to commune with the light intelligences in the hope of drawing them into manifestation. Some of the locations detailed include: Roswell, NM; Piedmont. MO; Marfa, TX; Allagash, ME; Brown Mountain, NC; Indian Head Rock, NH; Yakima/Mt. Adams, WA; Avebury, UK; Alton Barnes, UK; Warminster, UK; Aveley, UK; Peak District, UK; Rendlesham, UK; and the Dove Dale Valley, UK. Heavily illustrated throughout with numerous maps, photos and illustrations and includes an 8-page 24 color photo insert. Contains an extensive Introduction by Dr. Gregory L. Little that details the first university-based scientific field study of UFOs (researching UFO manifestations in Missouri as they actually occurred). This study, conducted in the 1970s, took place over 7 years and included over 35 physical scientists, engineers, and others utilizing sophisticated instrumentation. Nearly 160 viewing stations were employed and 157 documented sightings of 178 different UFOs were made. In addition, scientific studies of the Yakima, WA UFO reports are detailed along with the UK s Ministry of Defence Project Condign Report. UFOs are real, but they are something far more intriguing than beings from other worlds. The reality of UFO experiences is undeniable-but our interpretations of them have been marred by the UFO field insisting that they must be extraterrestrial craft.

Shakespeare on Love Seeing the Catholic Presence in Romeo and Juliet
Free Download Shakespeare on Love: Seeing the Catholic Presence in Romeo and Juliet By Joseph Pearce
2013 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 1586176846 | EPUB | 1 MB
Having given the evidence for William Shakespeare's Catholicism in two previous books, literary biographer Joseph Pearce turns his attention in this work to the Bard's most famous play, Romeo and Juliet. Star-crossed Romeo and Juliet are Shakespeare's most famous lovers and perhaps the most well-known lovers in literary history. Though the young pair has been held up as a romantic ideal, the play is a tragedy, ending in death. What then, asks Pearce, is Shakespeare saying about his protagonists? Are they the hapless victims of fate, or are they partly to blame for their deaths? Is their love the real thing, or is it self-indulgent passion? And what about the adults in their lives? Did they give the young people the example and guidance that they needed? The Catholic understanding of sexual desire, and its need to be ruled by reason, is on display in Romeo and Juliet, argues Pearce. The play is not a paean to romance but a cautionary tale about the naivete and folly of youthful infatuation and the disastrous consequences of poor parenting. The well-known characters and their oft-quoted lines are rich in symbolic meaning that points us in the direction of the age-old wisdom of the Church. Although such a reading of Romeo and Juliet is countercultural in an age that glorifies the heedless and headless heart of young love, Pearce makes his case through a meticulous engagement with Shakespeare and his age and with the text of the play itself.

Seeing God The Beatific Vision in Christian Tradition
Free Download Seeing God: The Beatific Vision in Christian Tradition By Hans Boersma
2018 | 512 Pages | ISBN: 0802876048 | PDF | 6 MB
When we see God, are we looking with our physical eyes or with the mind's eye? Both, says Hans Boersma in this sacramental and historical treatment of the beatific vision. Focusing on "vision" as a living metaphor, Boersma shows how the vision of God is accessible already today.Seeing Godis a historical study, but it also includes a dogmatic articulation of key characteristics that contribute to our understanding of the beatific vision. Theologians, philosophers, and literary authors have long maintained that the invisible God becomes visible to us. Boersma shows how God trains us to see his character by transforming our eyes and minds, highlighting continuity from this world to the next. Christ-centred, sacramental, and ecumenical in character,Seeing Godpresents life as a pilgrimage to see the face of God in the hereafter.

Gendered Commodity Chains Seeing Women's Work and Households in Global Production
Free Download Wilma A. Dunaway, "Gendered Commodity Chains: Seeing Women's Work and Households in Global Production"
English | 2013 | pages: 310 | ISBN: 0804789088, 0804787948 | PDF | 1,0 mb
Gendered Commodity Chains is the first book to consider the fundamental role of gender in global commodity chains. It challenges long-held assumptions of global economic systems by identifying the crucial role social reproduction plays in production and by declaring the household as an important site of production. In affirming the importance of women's work in global production, this cutting-edge volume fills an important gender gap in the field of global commodity and value chain analysis. With thirteen chapters by an international group of scholars from sociology, anthropology, economics, women's studies, and geography, this volume begins with an eye-opening feminist critique of existing commodity chain literature. Throughout its remaining five parts, Gendered Commodity Chains addresses ways women's work can be integrated into commodity chain research, the forms women's labor takes, threats to social reproduction, the impact of indigenous and peasant households on commodity chains, the rapidly expanding arenas of global carework and sex trafficking, and finally, opportunities for worker resistance. This broadly interdisciplinary volume provides conceptual and methodological guides for academics, graduate students, researchers, and activists interested in the gendered nature of commodity chains.
