Holy Terror Armageddon in Tokyo
Free Download Holy Terror: Armageddon in Tokyo By D.W. Brackett
1996 | 206 Pages | ISBN: 0834803534 | PDF | 37 MB
On March 20, 1995, a sarin gas attack in the subways of rush-hour Tokyo killed 12 people and seriously injured 5000 others. The Japanese police identified the perpetrator as a small religious group called Aum Shinri Kyo, or the Aum Divine Truth Sect. Searches of Aum compounds around Japan, arrests and confessions of members, and a rising pile of evidence of the manufacture of chemical weapons by the group led to the arrest of Asanhana, the sect's guru leader, who was put on trial for murder. This study provides an account of the first terrorist attack in Japan directed at civilians and also offers analysis and interpretation based on the author's knowledge of Japan and new Japanese religions.

Tokyo today is one of the world's mega-cities and the center of a scintillating, hyper-modern culture-but not everyone is aware of its past. Founded in 1590 as the seat of the warlord Tokugawa family, Tokyo, then called Edo, was the locus of Japanese trade, economics, and urban civilization until 1868, when it mutated into Tokyo and became Japan's modern capital.

Riding the Black Ship Japan and Tokyo Disneyland
Riding the Black Ship: Japan and Tokyo Disneyland By Aviad E. Raz
1999 | 264 Pages | ISBN: 0674768949 | PDF | 19 MB
In 1996 over 16 million people visited Tokyo Disneyland, making it the most popular of the many theme parks in Japan. Since it opened in 1983, Tokyo Disneyland has been analyzed mainly as an example of the globalization of the American leisure industry and its organizational culture, particularly the company manual. By looking at how Tokyo Disneyland is experienced by employees, management, and visitors, Aviad Raz shows that it is much more an example of successful importation, adaptation, and domestication and that it has succeeded precisely because it has become Japanese even while marketing itself as foreign. Rather than being an agent of Americanization, Tokyo Disneyland is a simulated America showcased by and for the Japanese. It is an America with a Japanese meaning.
