Palmerston and the Times Foreign Policy, the Press and Public Opinion in Mid–Victorian Britain
Free Download Laurence Fenton, "Palmerston and the Times: Foreign Policy, the Press and Public Opinion in Mid-Victorian Britain"
English | ISBN: 135016125X | 2020 | 224 pages | PDF | 2 MB
England in the Age of Palmerston had two players of colossal influence on the world stage: Lord Palmerston himself - the dominant figure in foreign affairs in the mid-nineteenth century - and The Times - the first global newspaper, read avidly by statesmen around the world. Palmerston was also one of the first real media-manipulating politicians of the modern age, forging close links with a number of publications to create the so-called 'Palmerston press'. His relationship with The Times was more turbulent, a prolonged and bitter rivalry preceding eventual rapprochement during the Crimean War. In this book, Laurence Fenton explores the highly charged rivalry between these two titans of the mid-Victorian era, revealing the personal and political differences at the heart of an antagonism that stretched over the course of three decades. Fenton focuses on the years from 1830 to 1865, when Palmerston was British Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister for a combined total of almost twenty-five years, and when The Times, under the editorship of first Thomas Barnes and then John Delane, reached the zenith of its success.

Paradoxes of Power U.S. Foreign Policy in a Changing World
Free Download David Skidmore, "Paradoxes of Power: U.S. Foreign Policy in a Changing World"
English | 2007 | ISBN: 159451402X, 1594514038 | EPUB | pages: 297 | 1.3 mb
This book provides a lively and readable introduction to current debates over U.S. power and purpose in world affairs. The end of the Cold War launched a new era in U.S. foreign policy. The United States entered a period of unprecedented global power, but one also characterized by new conflicts, challenges, and controversies. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the subsequent U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq cast a spotlight on continuing debates over how the United States should best use its considerable international power to secure safety for Americans and stability in the world. These debates involve two crucial questions: Should U.S. foreign policy focus on securing vital interests that are narrowly defined, or should the United States seek to spread U.S. institutions and values to other societies? Should the United States exercise maximum independence in the exercise of U.S. power abroad or work principally through multilateral institutions? This book brings together many different voices to answer these questions and to add to our understanding of the issues. Contributors include: Andrew J. Bacevich, Max Boot, Stephen G. Brooks, Ralph G. Carter, Robert F. Ellsworth, Niall Ferguson, Francis Fukuyama, Philip H. Gordon, Christopher Hitchens, James F. Hoge Jr., Michael Ignatieff, G. John Ikenberry, John B. The Foreign Policies of the European Union and the United States in North Africa Diverging or Converging Dynamics
Free Download Francesco Cavatorta, Vincent Durac, "The Foreign Policies of the European Union and the United States in North Africa: Diverging or Converging Dynamics?"
English | 2013 | ISBN: 0415851130, 0415483379 | EPUB | pages: 136 | 1.6 mb
The war in Iraq seemed to bring to a head underlying differences between the United States and the vast majority of European countries regarding the best means to maintain international peace and stability. The unilateralism of the United States as opposed to the multilateralism of the European Union is seen as a very significant source of potential rivalry between the two actors.

With the unemployment rate soaring and the economic picture growing bleaker by the hour, Screwed! is a necessary wake-up call for every concerned citizen, from middle class workers and Tea Party conservatives to labor leaders and environmentalists who oppose globalism and its negative economic and environmental repercussions.
